GPR Strategy to Face Issues ahead of the Presidential Election

For Adita, GPR should be focused on communicating the result of the government’s achievements, both in the year of politics which is considered sensitive and under normal conditions. Therefore, GPR needs a special strategy in order to able to maintain the reputation of the institution, even though it is often attacked with political issues. Adita also shared tips for GPR in facing the year of politics.

Smart, Careful, Neutral

Government public relations as a state civil apparatus (ASN) must be more intelligent, careful and neutral in attitude. GPR is not permitted to be directly involved in the political sphere of one particular candidate pair. However, if the political issue intersects with the institution, the related public relations must be able to explain based on the government's perspective, not the representative of the candidate.

Actively Rectify and Explain

When negative issues have led to hoaxes, the fake news that attacks the achievement of the government work, even to the degree of delegitimizing the achievements that have been made, the GPR must actively rectify and explain. The goal is so that people are not affected and doubt the government's performance. However, people's trust in the government is important. Without trust, there will be no community support and participation in the success of the program and in building this country.

Prioritize Work Achievement

Ahead of the celebration of democracy, government institutions are often wracked by various issues. This condition makes the performance of public relations more challenging. In response to this, Adita gave tips so that public relations would prefer to prioritize the achievement of the government work, altough it is not uncommon for public relations to suffer a dilemma. The communication strategy actually led to a public misunderstanding which views that the government supporting one of the candidate pairs, considering that one of the candidates in this election was the incumbent presidential candidate.

Understand Communication Targets

Public Relations must understand who the communication target is. Today's society tends to be less interested in long explanations which full of data because it seems boring. They need an approach that emphasizes storytelling that displays testimonials from the beneficiaries.

Embrace All "Stakeholders"

To anticipate issues that have the potential to disrupt the reputation of the institution, he urged public relations to be able to embrace all stakeholders, including the media.

Sensitive to Political Issues
