This is possible because information technology that is developing in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era such as big data, internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), to robots, make it possible for humans to connect and give solution fast to meet the individual needs specifically.

In response to the readiness of public relations (PR) practitioners in facing the Society 5.0 era, Elizabeth Goenawan Ananto, founder and director of EGA Briefings, said that to this day there is no concrete data related to PR position, whether on the technical, managerial, or strategic level. It is also not yet clear whether their readiness to face the era that was first sparked by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in front of the participant of the World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland on January 23, 2019.

Through a written statement to PR INDONESIA on Tuesday (19/2/2019), Elizabeth said that the most important thing is the readiness of the community. “Is Indonesia ready to lose workers in the service sector such as health and education?” she asked.  According to her, the uneven level of social, economic, and education in various islands in Indonesia can cause a greater social inequality if Society 5.0 is implemented in Indonesia.

Society 5.0 era which emphasizes the interests of everyone who has unique and different characters, Ega believed that it is similar to PR practice. “Public in the public relations terminology means a segmented public, not the wider community,” she explained. Meanwhile, to understand the different unique characters, big data management is needed. This condition then urged several companies to share data.

Ega believed that big data must be used to find a balance point, create peace and harmony. The use of big data needs to be based on ethics and policies so that it does not harm any parties. The privacy policy also needs to be concerned. Big data needs to be elaborated wisely in accordance with the capability and the social, economic, and cultural conditions of the country. (rvh)
