JAKARTA, PRINDONESIA.CO - It cannot be denied, the rapidness of the digital world and the more diverse communication channels can be the gateways for issues, hoaxes, and fake news to enter. To shorten the time of information dissemination which can cause chaos and public unrest, within a year the Public Relations (PR) and Protocols of South Sulawesi Province Regional Secretariat made two breakthroughs at once. Namely, the South Sulawesi PR Forum and PR Quick Reaction.

South Sulawesi PR Forum is a PR network which realized thanks to the synergy between the stakeholders such as the government, media, college, to private sectors. Its existence aims to equalize perception. So, the information that circles in the community can be validated and the truth can be accounted. “So far, the public relations cooperation between the stakeholders has gone well and the result is quite pleasing,” said Devo to PR INDONESIA through an email, Wednesday (10/10/2018).

Now, the PR and Protocols Bureau is focusing on working on the program PR Quick Reaction (HRC). This is a system that will answer the needs of the latest and reliable information submitted by the community. In the realization, this program needs the active involvement from the regional working units (SKPD/OPD). “Each SKPD/OPD gets the task of creating a system to answer the needs of valid and updated information to the community,” he said. “At least there is a clarification from them,” added Devo. The expectation, the time to respond which usually takes a day can be shortened into a matter of hours.

According to him, embracing SKPD/OPD is not an easy task, because not all regional working units understand the duty of PR and protocols. However, the breakthrough must be done and cannot be delayed. Especially PR is the funnel, eyes, and ears for the leader, as well as an information bridge for the government and the people.

This step is also a form of sincerity by the South Sulawesi Provincial Government to answer the challenge of the era. Therefore, the provincial government is incessant in holding training, workshop, and seminar so that PR is able to adapt with the rapid development of communication technology. “At least they are not clueless about technology,” he said. In a year, they have held two coordination meetings (rakor) and PR Expo workshop. They also work seriously on the official sites and account of South Sulawesi Provincial Government.

There is an interesting thing about Devo’s career journey. He is the only Head of PR and Protocols Bureau who accompanied three governors in the last two years. Starting from the period of SyahrulYasinLimpo, SoniSumarsono, and the last is Nurdin Abdullah. In addition, the man who started his career in the South Sulawesi Provincial Government as a Head of Resource Management Subdivision of the Regional Investment Coordinating Board (BKPMD) was once reappointed as the Head of PR and Protocols Bureau after he left that position for 1.5 years. “The opportunity to accompany three governors is a gift and extraordinary blessing from Allah SWT. I can learn directly from the great leaders of South Sulawesi Province,” he said.

Internal improvement was the first step which Devo did when appointed the position as Head of PR and Protocols Bureau. Starting from the HR readiness, facilities and infrastructures, and ensure the PR and protocols bureau was able to present empathy.

Devo must be smart in sharing the time with his family in order to be on standby for 24 hours to guide the flow of information. For the man who likes badminton, his spare time is his family time. “If my children send a message by phone and the content is about eating invitation or watching movie, it’s a code that they miss their father,” said the father of two children.

In living his life, the man who appointed as the Chairperson of Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) in South Sulawesi, has a principle to work wholeheartedly and completely carry out all the task which becomes his responsibilities. “Working totally becomes the balance between inner satisfaction and world satisfaction. And about the result, we leave it to the Almighty,” said Devo who makes his hobby of playing badminton as a place to strengthen relationship outside of his bureaucracy organization as well as to release stress.

For PR, he hopes he can contribute in actualizing South Sulawesi to become a developed, prosperous, and happy region. PR is also expected to embody the slogan “IHumas”, acronym of Innovative, Humanist and Professional, to become real. rtn
